The Drew Carey Show: Season 1

This page lists all of the episodes aired in Season 1 of The Drew Carey Show. The "Pilot" episode premiered on ABC-TV on September 13, 1995; a total of 22 episodes aired during the season, which ended on May 8, 1996, with the airing of the episode "Buzz Beer".

This season introduces Drew Carey as Assistant Director of Personnel at Winfred-Louder. His unseen but often heard boss is Mr. Bell (played by Kevin Pollak) who has an obnoxious assistant Mimi Bobeck (Kathy Kinney) who often clashes with Drew. Drew spends much of his free time with friends Lewis (Ryan Stiles), Oswald (Diedrich Bader) and Kate (Christa Miller). Throughout the season Drew has an on again- off again girlfriend, Lisa Robbins (Katy Selverstone) while Jay Clemens (Robert Torti) is Kate's boyfriend for the later half of Season 1.

The theme music for the first season's opening credits consists of Drew Carey singing "Moon Over Parma".

It turns out to be Nora who also ends up filing a lawsuit against Drew.

Drew turns down Winfred-Louder's attorneys (Guest stars Penn and Teller) when they try to get him to settle the lawsuit by signing a waiver that absolves the store of any responsibility. Drew then hires a lawyer, who happens to be an insufferable ex-boyfriend of Kate's, but is left high and dry when he has to fire him for making passes at Kate.

Drew defends himself against Nora's lawsuit but isn't very successful. Nora cries on the stand to gain sympathy and the outlook is pretty bleak for Drew. A stressed Drew loses it during an argument at the Warsaw, gets arrested for assault, and has to doubly defend himself. Much to his relief, the judge rules in his favor in Nora's case and the gang celebrates.

When Lewis' sister, Janet drops by for a visit, Drew who had a brief fling with her in high school shows a renewed interest and proceeds to date her despite Lewis' reservations. But when things don't go well, he needs to breakup with Janet without incurring Lewis' wrath.
